What exactly does the term “Cottage food laws” have to do with advertising, marketing and small business? The District Council released a bill last month that allows small businesses in DC who sell food to prepare food in their homes for sale to the public.
This is huge because as of now city law requires cooks to prepare all meals sold to the public in a commercial kitchen – thus limiting small food-oriented businesses to those who can afford the city’s steep rent. By lifting this barrier, more people can get involved in the quickly growing industry and we should see more city-based entrepreneurs in the near future. As long as the food’s of good quality, we at SAGA inc Studios are in full support of the motion and look forward to seeing more food trucks and diverse offerings throughout the city.
With an almost guaranteed increase in small food-based businesses on the horizon, it will be interesting to see what marketing tactics these start-ups take to diversify themselves among the competition!
